Fuller, Charlie

December 26, 2013
On Monday 30th September 2013 at Glencolmcille Parish Church we bade farewell to Charlie Fuller one of the great legends of Cumann Luthcleas Gael. Charlie lived all his life in Glencolmcille; he was a very special man who was dedicated to his community. Charlie, as a young man, played for his native club, Naomh Columba and from there grew his great love of Gaelic football and his club down through the years.
He was to the fore in all club activities and development, working hard in helping to raise funds for any improvements or projects that the club undertook. He travelled the length and breadth of the county with his good friend Sean Byrne, supporting Naomh Columba at both underage, senior and ladies matches and he was also an avid supporter of the County Donegal team.
You would say on a Sunday the family dinner was forgotten about as Charlie always arrived early at the field to enjoy a cup of tea and a sandwich with the players, tea ladies and supporters. He has travelled extensively in the past few years supporting our local Vocational Schools' team within the county and throughout Ulster. His great love for the GAA has swept down through his family, with his sons fielding for Naomh Columba on numerous occasions. This year he was a very proud man watching his grandson David playing, watched also by Charlie's wife Gladys and most of the family.
He became President of Naomh Columba in 2007, and he was delighted to have received this accolade from the club and served his Presidency with honour and distinction. Charlie was involved in a lot of other activities in the Parish and served on the Show Committee in its early days. He was a renowed 25 Card Player and indeed helped set up the Whist School in its present format in the Folk Village.
We hope it gives great solace and pride to his family, who are mourning him, the appreciation and regard with which he was held by all at Naomh Columba and this community as a whole.
I am sure he is now relating all the latest GAA news with the likes of Sean O hEinne, Con O'Gara, Francie Cunningham, Michael Oliver McIntyre and many more members of the club.
May the soft soil of Glencolmcille rest lightly on your shoulders. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dhilis.
