McFadden looks to new era

Donegal's Hugh McFadden celebrates his goal against Derry with Patrick McBrearty

Donegal midfielder Hugh McFadden believes that Sunday's Super 8's clash against Tyrone is the start of a new era for the counties.

A place in the All-Ireland SFC semi-final is at stake when the sides clash in Ballybofey and the hype surrounding the game is as big as ever.

In past meetings, there has been rivalry there that has often reached boiling point, but McFadden feels that is not the case with the current crop.

With so many changes in personnel on both sides, the Donegal midfielder told the Ulster Herald that this is the start of a new era for both counties.

"I think this is two new teams and I think the words 'bitter' and 'toxic' have been used previously, but these are two new teams and I think this is the start of a new era, and that's how we're looking at next Sunday," said McFadden.

He added: "It's always been very, very close and Tyrone won the Ulster championships in 2016 and 2017, and they beat us in both years, so with that we are a wee bit behind. The older generation were very successful against them at the start of the decade, so it's probably 50/50 throughout."
