Commiserations to Donegal on defeat to Dublin in the first round of the Super 8s. Victory in Saturday's game against Roscommon in Dr Hyde Park is now crucial if Donegal are to progress to the All-Ireland semi-finals. Tickets for the game can be ordered from the club by texting Lisa McTernan on 0862338636. The deadline for orders is 2pm on Tuesday.  Those who wish to show their support for the county are invited to get an official Donegal GAA supporters car sticker from Pearse O'Neill's. These are priced €20 with all proceeds going to the running of county teams.

 

The next action for Aodh Ruadh's adult footballers is this Sunday when Aodh Ruadh make the return trip to Gaoth Dobhair. Senior game throws in at 3pm with the reserves going off at 1.30pm.

 

The under 14s recent run of trophy success continued on Monday evening when they were crowned Southern Divisional champions. Holding a seven point interval lead, they defeated rivals Dungloe 2-9 to 1-4 in a pulsating final in Ardara. The victory was built on a resolute, tenacious and unwavering defensive performance which saw the Ballyshannon backs take everything Dungloe could to throw at them and then come back ready for more. There was an exhibition of blocking from Séimí Campbell and Aaron Cullen showed off his full array of shot-stopping brilliance. Darragh Flood Dolan was a rock at full back while Aaron Neilan directed play astutely from number six. In midfield Aodh Ruadh were served by wonderful performances from Ryan Keenaghan and Pauric Daly. Up front the twin threats of Damian Weber and Daniel Breen Brosnan made every chance count. The county quarter-finals are expected to take place next Monday. Keep an eye on the Aodh Ruadh CLG Facebook page for fixture details over the course of the week. Under 14 training continues on Friday from 4.45pm to 6pm.

 

The under 11s had a game against MacCumhaill's on Saturday morning, winning in a high scoring encounter with a good team performance. Training continues on Mondays from 6pm to 7pm

 

The under 10s were away to Kilcar last Friday evening. We had two teams and had two hard games with all the players enjoying the trip to Towney. Under 10 training continues on Mondays and Fridays at 7.15pm. Please note the change from Wednesdays to Monday evenings for next few weeks. We are going to the Roscommon v Donegal game on Saturday and intend to play a game locally prior to the big match in the Hyde. We will have more details on travel details and cost across the course of the week.

 

Ladies

There will be a meeting of the ladies committee in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh on Thursday at 8.30pm. All committee members are asked to attend.

 

The Realt Ruadh ladies were back in league action this week, losing out to Milford on a scoreline of 6-8 to 1-5. This Sunday they are in Donegal town to take on Four Masters.

 

The curtain came down on the under 16 ladies league campaign last Tuesday with a battling defeat to a Saint Eunan's side who finished the round robin stages top of the Division 1 table. The Letterkenny side were deserved winners on the day, but Aodh Ruadh showed a lot of character in defeat. Áine Hill stepped up from under 14 to do a super job between the sticks. In front of her Síofra Hughes was in defiant form with Alana Gallagher well on top of her opposite number while Aideen Walsh was strong in her corner too. Caoimhe McCauley had one of her best games of the year at wing back. Up front Laoise Kelly hit 1-1, putting on the cap on what was a fine scoring season for the Rossnowlagh ace. Beside her Kelly Eves put in a strong shift. Player of the match though was Katie McMullin who showed huge reserves of guts and fighting spirit, constantly taking the game to the opposition. The end of a disappointing season for the team, but the focus now turns to the Carryduff tournament on August 4th when the squad will be looking to finish the season on a high. Training for this competition continues on Thursday at 7pm.

 

The under 14s recorded two good wins in the past week. The first was against Ardara last Wednesday in Father Tierney Park and saw the visitors put up a strong fight in the opening quarter, but Aodh Ruadh took a grip on the game to run out deserved winners. Katie O'Brien, Ciara Gillespie and Niamh Hughes were all in fine scoring form. Aoibhínn McGarrigle was superb at half forward while full back Grainne Maguire capped an excellent 60 minutes with a well taken point. On Sunday Killybegs were the visitors to Ballyshannon. Aodh Ruadh rose to their task from the off and controlled matters from early on, Lucy McGlynn sending over the first point seconds in. Nevertheless Killybegs came out with real purpose in the second half and made a right battle of things. It was good to see different players putting their hands up to take on responsibility in this game. Defensively Cara Davitt and Hannah Gallagher were immense with Ciara Caldwell cool as ever. Megan Kane sealed a great display with a blaster of a goal. In midfield Caoimhe Hughes - O'Brien was simply immense, with Niamh Hughes offering good support in the middle third too. Up front Katie O'Brien was unmarkable with Shauna O'Mahoney netting for the second game in a row and Evelyn Rose Gallagher a great outlet. Both games saw Áine Hill in unflappable form. Next up for Aodh Ruadh is the last game of the round robin section. That is against Saint Eunan's this Friday at 7pm in O'Donnell Park. Training continues from 6pm to 7pm on Wednesday.

 

The ladies county board have sent each club five cards to sell. There are 30 lines in each card with each line €5. The seller who sells a card will automatically get a county ladies jersey and those buying the lines will, when card is full be in a draw for a county ladies jersey, so each card will have two ladies jerseys up for grabs. Hurling

The under 12s travelled to the Cross last Thursday to take on Setanta. Numbers at this age group are good and they are a young enthusiastic squad. They were in complete control of this game and were convincing winners 3-5 to 0-2. There will be tougher challenges ahead beginning with MacCumhaill's at home this Thursday. Thanks to all the parents and guardians who drove the lads to the game. Your support is much appreciated.

 

The under 16s had an entertaining challenge game against Ben Bulben Gaels in Father Tierney Park. Up against a physically stronger team the lads ran out winners on a 4-22 to 6-10 scoreline. Many thanks to Chris Kelly who did a great job as ref.

 

Donegal take on Sligo in the All-Ireland under 21 B quarter-final in Father Tierney Park on Tuesday at 7.30pm. Oisin Rooney and Brendan Gillespie are the Aodh Ruadh representatives on the squad.

Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh access

Work is continuing at the entrance and car park area of Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh to divert pipe work prior to resurfacing. Users are asked to exercise care in this area until all works are completed in the early part of August.

Abbey Centre Bingo

Last week's €400 bingo jackpot was won by Dorothy McGarrigle. The stand up game prize of €140 was won by Patsy McShea of Ballintra. The snowball had no winner so rolls to €350 on 45 numbers or less. With refurbishment works going on at the Abbey Centre, bingo will take place at Coláiste Cholmcille on College Street, Ballyshannon at 9pm this Friday. Books cost just €10 with a €2,000 prize fund up for grabs.

 

Aodh Ruadh Lotto

There was no winner of last week's Aodh Ruadh Lotto jackpot of €2,000. The winning numbers drawn were 1, 2, 3, 4, 10 and 11. In the lucky dip €20 went to Rose Gallagher, Portnason; Gerry Timoney, Belcoo; Nellie Blake, Parkhill; Ann McGowan; and Sinead Keown, The Knather.
