Cavan manager Mattie McGleenan has been dealt a massive blow with the news that instrumental attacker Dara McVeety is set to miss his side's Ulster SFC opener against Donegal next month.

The Irish News reports today that a scan on the Crosserlough man's torn hamstring from last Sunday's Division 2 final defeat to Roscommon has revealed that he will be side-lined for the next six to eight weeks.

The Breffni men open their provincial championship campaign in Ballybofey on May 13th and McGleenan has confirmed that they will have to plan without their captain for the preliminary round clash.

The winners in six weeks' time are in line to face Damian McErlain's Derry side in the quarter-finals on May 27th.
