Waterford's Austin Gleeson and Matthew O'Hanlon of Wexford

HS hurling team of the week

Tipperary and Waterford advanced to the penultimate stage of this year's All-Ireland SHC at the expense of Clare and Wexford respectively.

1. Stephen O'Keeffe (Waterford)

The number one's defensive clearances were the launch pad for many a successful Waterford attack in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

2. Liam Ryan (Wexford)

Kept fighting until the very end but the Model County just came up against superior opposition on the day.

3. Barry Coughlan (Waterford)

Wexford danger man Conor McDonald cut a frustrated figure as failed to get any change off Coughlan & Co.

4. Noel Connors (Waterford)

The two-time All-Star didn't put a foot wrong as the Deise qualified for a third consecutive semi-final under Derek McGrath's watch.

5. Conor Cleary (Clare)

It's back to the drawing board for Cleary and the Banner County following their 3-16 to 0-28 exit at the hands of Tipperary.

6. Ronan Maher (Tipperary)

Galway represent a massive challenge for Maher and the reigning All-Ireland champions in the last four of the Liam MacCarthy Cup race.

7. Padraic Maher (Tipperary)

The Premier County's captain will be hoping they can limit the space afforded to the Tribesmen's forwards on Sunday week.

8. Rory O'Connor (Wexford)

The 19-year-old was handed his championship debut by Davy Fitzgerald and acquitted himself quite well.

9. Kevin Moran (Waterford)

The Deise captain led by example with 1-3 and his goal on the stroke of half-time left Wexford with a steep mountain to climb.

10. Noel McGrath (Tipperary)

McGrath raised six white flags from play and his finger prints were all over a lot of the chances created by Tipp's attacking unit.

11. Austin Gleeson (Waterford)

Grew in prominence as the game progressed and put in a strong shift during the second-half of his team's four point victory.

12. Michael 'Brick' Walsh (Waterford)

Derek McGrath's charges were quick out of the block and 'Brick' was very much to the fore early on, scoring a point and winning three scoreable frees.

13. Aaron Cunningham (Clare)

Cunningham's return of two goals highlighted the problems that Tipperary have in their full-back line.

14. Seamus Callanan (Tipperary)

Manager Michael Ryan issued a positive injury update on the Tipp full-forward - who registered 0-7 - after he was forced off the Pairc Ui Chaoimh pitch with arm and hand injuries.

15. John McGrath (Tipperary)

McGrath delivered four points for the Liam MacCarthy Cup holders and was a constant thorn in the Banner County's defence.
