McAteer, Willie John

December 11, 2012
Death of a Club Stalwart: It was with deep regret that the club committee, players and members of St Oliver Plunkett's GAC learned of the death of a great friend of the club, Willie John McAteer RIP, on Friday morning, 7th December 2012. Willie John was an esteemed former committee member, serving from 1980 to 2006, and holding the positions of Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Vice Chairman and PRO with distinction. Apart from the committee he was involved in all aspects of the club for many years from lining the pitch to raising funds, he worked tirelessly to help where he could. Willie John was also a great Derry Gael, travelling to all parts of the country to
support his native county. He will be sorely missed by all current and former club members and we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to his entire family circle at this time. Mary Queen of the Gael pray for his soul.

Thanks to those club member; who attended Willie John's Funeral on Sunday and formed a guard of honour as the coffin entered and exited the church. A fitting gesture
for such a dedicated club man.
