A winning start against rivals Down was the perfect start to Derry manager John McEvoy’s reign.
Despite only starting to work with the Derry hurlers in early January, McEvoy has been delighted with the attitude of the players.
That attitude was carried on to the field of play last weekend when they recorded a five-point win over a shocked Down side.
Speaking to the Derry Journal, the former Dublin under-21 manager revealed that they still have a lot of work to do.
“We only started on January 6th and have done very little work. It’s only three weeks since we met the players but I am delighted with the attitude,” said McEvoy.
“The goals will come from the group. We have not had very much time and are thinking about it game by game. As we get closer to the end of the league, we will begin adjusting our goals.
“I haven’t even thought about Christy Ring or any championship matches. We are just getting to know the players.”
