Derry are set to appoint Laois native John McEvoy as their new senior hurling manager.

The Irish News reports that the former Dublin coach will take over from Collie McGurk for 2019 with Dubliner John McGuirk and former Antrim hurler Brian Delargy set to be his selectors.

McEvoy managed Dublin’s U21 hurlers to Leinster glory in 2011, along with an All-Ireland final appearance, and was head coach of the seniors the same year when the defeated Kilkenny in the Division 1 final.

Next season will see the Oak Leafers operating in Division 2B once more and come summer they’ll be competing in the Christy Ring Cup in a group which includes neighbours Donegal, Down and Wicklow.
