Cahir Healy is a major doubt for Laois' Allianz Football League opener against Down in Newry next Saturday night after suffering suspected medial ligament damage in a challenge match against Kerry at the weekend.

The Portlaoise dual star, who has opted to play with the county footballers this year, will undergo a scan to ascertain the extent of the damage.

Meanwhile, Killeshin's Stephen Attride will continue as Laois football captain for a third year, with Timahoe's Damien O'Connor and Portlaoise's Gareth Dillon acting as joint vice-captains.
