Cork have missed out on a place in the Munster MHC final, despite running out easy winners over 14-man Waterford at Semple Stadium.

Limerick's last-gasp win over Clare in Ennis means they will contest the final against Tipperary on July 1 as John Considine's men made their exit.

Cork opened the scoring through Cathal Hickey before Waterford hit back with a goal from Ciaran Keating in the 10th minute after he was set up by Tom Gallagher. The Rebels replied with points from Jack Cahalane, Shane Barrett and Darragh Flynn before Shane Barrett raised a green flag to propel them into a 1-4 to 1-1 lead.

Ethan Twomey and Padraig Power added points to leave the winners perched on a 1-9 to 1-2 interval lead.

Cork extended their advantage after the restart thanks to points from Power, Cahalane, Barrett and Cian McCarthy as Waterford were reduced to 14 men after Sam Fitzgerald picked up a second yellow card.

It was all over the bar the shouting when Power bagged a goal to leave Cork 2-14 to 1-3 in front. The Deise reduced the deficit to nine points following points from Ciaran Keating and Michael Kiely, and a goal from substitute Oisin O'Gorman.

But the Rebels had the final say when Barrett struck for his second goal in the closing stages.
