Corofin’s long serving defender Kieran Fitzgerald admits that it would be very hard to walk away from the current squad.

The 38-year-old has won it all at club level and no one could feel aggrieved if he decided to hang his boots up, but the former Galway star is in no hurry to make a decision on his future.

Picking up his third All-Ireland club medal following last Sunday's impressive win over Dr Crokes at Croke Park, Fitzgerald was sent off late on, but recieved a standing ovation from both sets of supporters.

“For me, it’s very hard to leave this group. I’ll have to sit down and see where I go in the next couple of weeks,” Fitzgerald told the Connacht Tribune.

“It’s difficult. It’s very hard to leave a group like this. We’ll be beaten too down the road. Winning is obviously brilliant but I love it, we’ve been through so much now with this group.

“We’ve had some poor days in the past as well, losing All-Ireland semi-finals. This is just amazing. I won my first All-Ireland club medal at 34, which is crazy, and I have three now, which is just bananas.

“Obviously management will have a part to play and we’ll see where they see me in the bigger picture but for now it was just a pleasure to be part of this group.”
