Dublin's keep-ball tactics criticised

July 15, 2018

Dublin's Paul Flynn holds off the challenge of Donegal's Cian Mulligan, RTE pundit Joe Brolly.

"It was like dogs chasing airplanes," remarked Joe Brolly on RTE after Dublin saw out the last 10 minutes of their Super 8 opener against Donegal by playing 'keep ball'.

With the finishing line in sight, the All-Ireland champions decided to run down the clock by keeping possession, mainly around the middle third of the Croke Park pitch. It wasn't pretty - boos and groans were audible with each pass - but it was certainly effective as Jim Gavin's men prevailed on a 2-15 to 0-16 scoreline.
