David Gough has been selected as referee for the 2019 All-Ireland SFC final between Dublin and Kerry.

The Meath man has been the outstanding referee on show in this year’s championship and has been rewarded by being handed his first senior All-Ireland final. The 36-year-old took charge of the 2016 semi-final between the Dubs and the Kingdom.

His excellent refereeing was to the fore in this year’s Super 8s as he brilliantly handled Dublin’s victory over Cork and Mayo’s win against Donegal. Gough is widely praised for his ability to officiate in a practical and common-sense manner. Conor Lane, Barry Cassidy and Sean Hurson will be Gough's assistants on September 1st.

Former Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice suggested that Gough should not be considered as he lives and works in the capital (he is a schoolteacher at St Pius X Primary School in Templeogue) but Croke Park have wisely opted to appoint the best man for the job.
