Monaghan defender Ryan Wylie says he “wasn’t too bothered” by last year’s All Star snub.

The Ballybay clubman was nominated for an All Star award along with his brother Drew after excellent performances in the Farney men’s defence during their county’s run to a first All-Ireland SFC semi-final in 30 years.

Ryan had been widely tipped to land his first gong after some superb individual displays throughout the summer but missed out, as Dublin's Jonny Cooper and Tyrone pair Colm Cavanagh and Padraig Hampsey made up the team’s full-back line.

Speaking on the matter at yesterday’s Allianz Football League launch, Wylie said he had not been expecting to win an award when the 15 players were announced in November.

“I actually thought there was more made of it than there needed to be,” he told the Irish Daily Star.

“I actually didn’t think I was going to get one anyway. I wasn’t too bothered, there were plenty of other players I’d say that probably deserved it more than me. I’d say they were more pissed off.

“I thought Drew might have got it ahead of me anyway. So I wasn’t too worried.”
