Kilkenny manager Brian Cody admits that defender Huw Lawlor has impressed him since joining the squad.

Cody gave some fringe players the opportunity to shine in the Wild Geese Trophy exhibition game and he was particularly happy with his number three.

The O’Loughlin Gaels player lined out at full back for Kilkenny in their defeat to Galway in Australia last weekend.

Lawlor earned rave reviews for his performance against the Tribesmen and Cody told the Kilkenny People that the youngster had been making good strides since joining the squad.

“He’s a good player,” said Cody. “He’s been with us all year in training and he’s a good player who is developing nicely.”
