Philly McMahon will not be joining the Dublin squad on their holiday to South Africa after Christmas.

The Ballymun star will instead stay at home to take care of his father, who was diagnosed with stomach cancer this past summer.

Speaking to The Evening Herald newspaper yesterday, McMahon said: "He's a very positive man and he is fighting every day and when it gets to that stage, that's all you can do.

"He actually got released today. It's great to have him home for Christmas."

The three-in-a-row All-Ireland champions will jet off for South Africa on December 27th - exactly a month before they open their National League campaign against Kildare.
