There was penultimate round action in the Connacht MFC this evening as Galway overcame Mayo by 2-12 to 0-11 to boost their five-in-a-row provincial hopes.

The holders struck for two late goals from Tomo Culhane (penalty) and Niall Cunningham at MacHale Park as Mayo fell to their second successive defeat of the campaign.

The sides were deadlocked on 0-4 apiece at the end of a low-scoring first-half but it was the Tribesmen who finished the stronger.

Meanwhile, Sligo recorded a straightforward win over Leitrim at Carrick-on-Shannon where the scoredboard read: Leitrim 1-9 Sligo 1-20, at the full-time whistle.

Jack Hughes' goal after less than a minute gave Leitrim the perfect start but Sligo slowly got to grips with their opponents.

The final round-robin fixtures take place next Friday, June 21st and see Galway host Leitrim (Tuam Stadium) and Sligo at home to Roscommon (Markievicz Park).
