Tyrone captain Mattie Donnelly admits that they were devastated to lose to Monaghan in the Ulster SFC last weekend.

In a pulsating contest that ebbed and flowed throughout, it was Malachy O'Rourke's charges that finished the stronger to advance to the next round.

Donnelly told the Ulster Herald that the aim for them this year was to win a third consecutive provincial title, but now they have to pick themselves up and go through the qualifiers' route.

"We had fully intended to be going for a third Ulster title in a row, so to lose is very disappointing indeed," stated Donnelly.

"Unfortunately, that's not on the cards anymore and we are gutted. He added: "Colm Cavanagh and Tiarnan McCann going off was a big blow as well."
