GAA competitions will get back up and running from 31 July with an 11-week window for club games before the start of the inter-county championships on 17 October.

The GAA, together with the LGFA and the Camogie Association, laid out a roadmap for a phased return to activity yesterday after the easing of more Government restrictions.

The inter-county championships are set to be run on a knock-out basis through November and December but there is uncertainty about when they will be completed. However, a revised fixture calendar will be released in phase three.

"We will have a championship this year," Horan said on RTÉ Radio 1's Drivetime afterwards. "It may spill over into early 2021 but we will have it."

Perhaps the most important decision made by the GAA in the 'Return To Play' was keeping all club pitches and training areas closed until 29 June.

"The roadmap for the next three weeks is to prepare our clubs and our mentors to get ready for the resumption of training within our facilities," the Na Fianna clubman explained.

"If we open our venues, people will come back in large numbers to actually use and exercise in the venues.

"You have got to appreciate the large membership we have in our organisation and if we opened the pitches without training the officers and mentors on how to deal with the situation that we are dealing with, we would be making an error of judgement."
