James Horan has rubbished reports that Cillian O'Connor was left out of the Mayo squad that beat Down on Saturday for disciplinary reasons.

The Mayo manager clarified that the former captain, who underwent knee surgery last December, is 'very close' to regaining full fitness and could feature in next weekend's All-Ireland SFC Qualifier Round 3 meeting with Armagh in Castlebar.

"Absolutely nothing," Horan replied when asked if his Ballintubber club-mate had been disciplined.

"I suppose it is important that our fans are behind us and steady behind us. Sometimes crazy stuff happens, but as long as they are steady and supporting us, we will be happy.

"He is very, very close. Cillian will be training with us Wednesday. He just needs to get his fitness up, so he will be training, pushing very hard on Wednesday for inclusion next weekend. So it's great that he's back."
