2019 Predictions? - 22 Like(s)
royaldunne-You may be an excellent supporter but your predictions are unfortunately almost 100% incorrect. I do not do bashing. I support the present management just like the last ones and wish them the best in a difficult job. You cannot hide from the facts that the team is no better than it was 3 years ago (maybe not as good), so all this nonsense about we are fitter, more determined is just plain nonsense and you need to waken up to those facts. You will only know whether the team is stronger this year than last year at the end of the league (they had to beat Louth to stay in Div 2 in 2018) but I have seen nothing yet to agree with your optimistic predictions (hope I am completely wrong though). I conclude in saying that I wish all involved the best of luck going forward and it takes excellent commitment to be involved in county football. I do agree with you in that players do need to realise that they always have a good chance of winning.

Management Merry Go Round Starts Again - 21 Like(s)

Replying To BigJoe14:  "A bit odd to see Junior and Intermediate teams referring to their 1st Team as a 'Senior team'. They are not a Senior team. They are a Adult first team and you can then refer to them as the Junior team (if the 1st team play junior), as the Intermediate team (if the 1st team play Intermediate) and as the Senior team (if the 1st team play Senior). I would be a bit embarrassed to be calling my adult team a Senior team when in fact they are a lowly Junior team. No offence intended."
I agree with you but senior can mean 'top ranked' and Trim Intermediate football team is 'top ranked' within their own club (football)- obviously not within the county.

Meath Vs Kildare Promotion Playoff - 20 Like(s)

Replying To royaldunne:  "Due to my young son having a mini medical emergency (he's ok thankfully) I didn't see second half. I said at beginning of year if we didn't get promoted it was time for a fresh outlook from the sidelines, I've given my support to Andy throughout this , but now (end of championship) is time for a new vision for Meath. Andy has brought us as far as he can, I thank him wholeheartedly for his efforts and those of the back room team, and I wish them all well for the future. The Leinster is meaningless as we all know the outcome, even the all ire is meaningless (but that's a different story). It's now time for cb (in the background obviously) to prepare for the new management team."
You are an excellent supporter in good and not so good times, you should pay no attention to keyboard posters such as the idiot you refer to. I wish your son a speedy recovery and wish all your family good health as those are the more important things in life.

Just because one individual in the press agrees with you does not make your post any more logical. Are you trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat?

Furlong1949 quote: 'but I remember it took Ollie Murphy 4 years to become first team starter to Meath'. Yes it did but that had more to do with the club he was from. If he had been from the managers club he would have been on the team much earlier!! - that is a fact of life unfortunately . Now the Manager was one of the best in the business but like all humans he got some calls wrong.

2019 Predictions? - 20 Like(s)

Replying To royaldunne:  "We haven't had a sexoyhalf collapse under mcentee and if you think we not miles fitter than we were when he took over you need to go to specsavers"
I think you require more than a visit to specsavers - How many miles fitter is it 2 or 200?

Much better display than previous week and unlucky to not come away with a win in very difficult conditions. With a little more experience the game could have been won. With 2 points up and playing with a strong wind, more defenders should have stayed inside the 35m line in the last few minutes. Best of luck to all next day out.

Outrageous Ticket Prices - 20 Like(s)

Replying To royaldunne:  "While I agree on the pricing. The one thing I will say is for the development of this Meath team we had to play this game in Croke park,"
Not sure whether playing in CP will further a teams development (Dublin being an exception as it now their home)- there's nothing liking winning for gaining confidence. If Leinster council were serious about a ' level playing field'! the match would be fixed for Pairc Tailteann. I know the capacity is fixed at 10k due to what is referred to as H & S, even though the ground would readily hold double that. Now we all know that finance is now No. 1 in the GAA- it used to be our games.

A League - Football 2019 - 19 Like(s)
Division 1 is very competitive with only 2 points between the top 4 teams. Summerhill and Navan O'Mahony's are on top with 20pts, Simonstown are on 19pts and Kells are on 18pts with only one match left to play. There have been some very entertaining matches with little negative football throughout the campaign. The best of luck to all teams in all divisions.

Replying To Jackpot:  "Entertainment doesn't mean good standard. I've been to entertaining games at all levels. I watch tg4 alot and don't see any meath clubs featuring. Dubs TV has high quality club football. Theres lads on club teams there who'd be in with a great shout of getting on the Meath team. Why not enquire?"
Maybe you should move away from the armchair and TG4. What you watch on TG4 has little relevance to football inside the county. Most of the experts are outside the fence or maybe in a armchair.

Replying To Chubby:  "Louth have been training this past two months and are taking it serious."
I also took the game serious and trained all day long, but never won anything- except kick-outs!!. Myself and Royalldunne won a few cups (they were ones full of tea). Seriously though the best of luck to all and it is a competition that I would support and it gives a coverage to players which has to be good-hope the weather keeps dry.

Pairc Tailteann - 19 Like(s)

Replying To CastleBravo:  "Much as I'd love to moan about it, for an 8 figure project the size of Páirc Tailteann, spending €800'000 on planning and consultancy isn't excessive or unusual. The sheer volume of surveys, feasibility studies, business plans, proof you're meeting the local development and spatial plans etc. that's required for planning and government funding just gets more and more every year."
Not sure what planet you are on. What has been spent on planning is indeed excessive. Why plan for 4 stands when even CP does have that. Terraces at both end are more than sufficient. Unfortunately there appears little development personnel experience involved. I would love to see development of this project as it has: a) location is excellent within 2km of a motorway, 0.5km of slip road to motorway and within 1hour of 7/8 counties b) Pt has an exceptional history -read Mick O' Brien's history of same.

New Players For 2021 - 19 Like(s)

Replying To Foley91:  "We obviously haven't a good footballing keeper. Why not try and transform an outfield player who is accurate with their feet. A keeper in the modern game will have about 4 shots to save whereas he will have about 15-20 knockouts. And its the kickouts that are killing us."
I see where you are coming from if we get the kickouts correct we will hammer the Dubs, not sure that we would get away with the the knockouts though!!

Senior Championship Match Predictions - 19 Like(s)

Replying To MillerX:  "I agree with your statement "For lads to come on here and slate them for having nobody on the Meath panel in laughable." In 1966 Kells won the Senior and Junior Football Championships and yet the following year had nobody on the county team that won the All Ireland, so not having players on the County team is not really a guide to a team's worth or form."
Kells have indeed some players who are as good or better than what is on the county teams and most posters who watch football without the blinkers on will know that. The championship is wide open and could go to any of the teams left with Kells high on the list.

New Additions For Meath Panel 2020... - 19 Like(s)

Replying To Thejoeshow:  "two quick points 1. The team of the week is nominated by clubs not the chronicle who don't attend all games 2. Majority of that team are small players But fair play to you"
I'm not so sure about your facts!! Is there any difference between an average big player and an average small one? Many of the best players in some of the best teams were not big players.

Meath Juniors 2019 - 19 Like(s)
I think that different counties have different selection protocol, however I was always of the opinion that within the county, players were chosen primarily from junior and intermediate level teams. It does give smaller clubs, which are many and their players an opportunity to put on the county jersey and hopefully a few may make it on to the senior squad/team. There is no age limit which is good.

Congratulations to the team and management yesterday. Good match and good style of football, which is good going into the future. A number of pleasing aspects were the team work of all involved. Management deserve a lot of credit being able to put together a good team made up of players from all over the county.

I am not sure how it benefits football inside the county by throwing young guys out of a competition. The incident appeared to have been started by non -players.
