Hopefully the county board are working on two new master fixture planners this week. One if we beat Clare and one if we lose. The current planner has essentially gone out the window and teams/players are planning week to week. This is correct as the hurling clubs used to have a bit of a reputation for not handing up their % ,as they had a bit of a chip re the CB which they seen as a football board . No shocks at the weekend, comfortable wins for Trim and Na Fianna. Went to the Boardsmill-Trim game, Trim look very strong (even missing Toher) and have a great spread of scoring forwards now that Mikey Cullen and Peter Farrell are back. I fancy Na Fianna to take Kilmessan's scalp in Trim tonight. Hopefully, Longwood can give Kiltale a good rattle too, they were beaten heavily by them in last year's quarter final. no they wont go down, too many good players for that. Kilmessan underage has been poor for 10 years and we are seeing them slide now. Na Fianna and Trim have dominated underage for the last 7 or 8 years and they are the coming young teams in meath now. The past two results against kilmessan have shown maybe just maybe you can win with kids! Na Fianna and Trim very impressive. I wouldn't rate Ratoath as highly as others on here and I feel kildalkey have gone backwards. Kiltale could have been beaten by Longwood but weren't and that's a sign of a good team. I'd say the hurling will be run off over the next few weeks. If it's not both the hurling and football championships will be going in to October and club players will be left doing nothing for the next month. I keep it moving to avoid any congestion with fixtures as the year goes on. When you look at the Meath Football team, how many of them actually play hurling. Off the top of my head, I dont believe any of the starting 15 from Sunday play for the clubs. People could throw out Cillian O Sullivan or Donal Keogan but in reality neither play if anything else gets in the way. Even of the subs, Mickey Burke is the only player who I can think of who would be a consistently hurling and even he played on Monday night. My point is it is very unfair for the club hurlers to organise any holidays particularly when the fixture committee constantly ignore the proposed holiday break. Add in the u20 and the junior and clubs are being decimated. Particularly smaller clubs who are picking from smaller playing numbers. Just using mickey burke as an example is way off. McGill and McMahon are good hurlers as is adam Flanagan. I think it would be an idea to split both the hurling and football seasons. Those lads are good hurlers but it's been established long ago that hurling isn't a priority for them. Burke is the only one to force the issue and play for his club.
