Hugh was a very popular figure in the Navan area and in April 2010 had celebrated 60 years of marriage to his wife Bernadette. His son Eric has served the local Simonstown club in practically every official position at both adult and underage level. Eric's sons and Hugh's grandson Keith and Conor have also played for the Navan side.
