This well known couple sadly passed away within a month of each other. Annie died on June 20th while Kevin passed away on July 17th. Kevin was a lifelong member of the Syddan club, winning a number of championship medals in the late 40s and early 50s culminating with the clubs one and only Keegan Cup success in 1956. This was a special occasion for the club and especially for Kevin who asa young boy was sitting only yards from Tom Keegan when he recieved that fateful injury in 1940. Thereafter and understandably so, that sad event became ingrained in Kevin's memory. Kevin was an accomplished footballer and lined out at right half back as London were beaten in the All-Ireland junior final in 1952, the same year that Syddan won both the senior championship and the Feis Cup.
Annie, nee Meegan, was from Clogherhead in Louthand she married kevin in 1953. They raised a large family in Greenhills. One of their sons, Donal, was an outstading footballer after a stint with the county minors made it on to the strong Meath senior championship team of the late 70s. Donal emigrated to New York in 1978. This wasa major blow to an emerging team and talk still exists around Syddan about the amount of Keegan Cups they could have won in the late 70s and early 80s had Donal Clare stayed at home.
