"This is definitely the best group of lads I've played with"

Graham Reilly is congratulated after Meath's win over Fermanagh at Pairc Tailteann

Graham Reilly says the current Meath crop is the best he’s been involved with.

Reilly is the second-longest serving player in the Royal County squad that secured promotion to Division One on Sunday, having joined the Meath senior set-up as a teenager in 2007.

He believes the current side - assembled by Andy McEntee and bound for the top flight next year - is their best in over a decade:

“I've been around for the last twelve years and we've had some really good players, some really good teams, but this is definitely the best group of lads I've played with,” the St Colmcille’s clubman told The Irish Independent.

“We as a county had probably accepted that we're at a Division Two standard rather than the mentality that Andy has brought in - that we have to be a Division One side. All the All-Ireland winners, all the championship winners from the different provinces are all playing Division One football.

“It's great for the county. You could see from the crowd, the buzz, all the kids, it's the games they want to see next year. They want to see Meath-Dublin, Meath-Kerry, Meath-Mayo, all the teams like that coming to Pairc Tailteann and us playing in Croke Park because I firmly believe that this group is good enough to be playing there.”
