St. Colmcilles pause for the National Anthem before their round 2 win over Wolfe Tones at Pairc Tailteann

Round two of the Meath club football championship came to a conclusion at the weekend. Unlike the opening round near perfect conditions prevailed.

Dunboyne laid to rest last year's quarter-final collapse against holders Simonstown. Skryne and Syddan were beaten for the first time while St Colmcilles and Donaghmore Ashbourne made it two from two. Ballinabrackey, Longwood and The Moores are the only unbeaten teams in the intermediate while Ballivor smashed 7-23 past Cortown in the junior.

We pick our 'Best XV'

1 Darragh Maguire (Longwood): The veteran, 25 years representing the club at championship level, produced an outstanding save as Kilmainham came looking for the winner in that entertaining IFC clash at Paddy O'Brien Park.

2 Michael Kearney (Ballinabrackey): Scored one of the goals of the year so far, racing from his defensive position to link up with attack and smash the ball to the St. Michaels net in the opening half at Pairc Tailteann.

3 Jamie McDonnell (St Colmcilles): Dealt with the aerial threat and the scoring power that comes with the Ward brothers, Cian and Fiachra, to great effect in that narrow win over the Tones at Pairc Tailteann.

4 Johnny Baldwin (Na Fianna): Never fails to deliver for the Baconstown Enfield outfit. Covered acres of ground in defence and was a stumbling block for many a Gaeil Colmcille attack in that two point win at headquarters.

5 Craig Lowndes (Dunboyne): An exceptional display from the St. Peters half back as three in a row chasing Simonstown were defeated at Trim. Equally at home in defence and attack.

6 Caolan Young (Summerhill): Tasked with marking Skryne danger man Paddy O'Rourke and handled the job with great authority as Summerhill made up for their opening round disappointment at Sean Newman Park.

7 Gavin McGowan Ratoath: The usual powerful running from the dual star. Scored a goal and a point in that easy win over Moynalvey at Skryne. The three McGowans, Gavin, Ben and David accounted for 1-7 of the winners total.

8 Ryan Owens (Meath Hill): Continued his good form from round one as neighbours Syddan were beaten for the first time this year. The Hill's dominance stemmed from midfielder Owens and his partner veteran Keith Ginnity, both of whom were outstanding at Drumconrath.

9 Ethan Devine (Na Fianna): A very impressive display from the Meath U20 panellist. Chipped in with four points and controlled the game from start to finish as Sean O'Dea's charges saw off Gaeil Colmcille with two points to spare.

10 John Keane (Summerhill): Delivered a phenomenal work rate, scored a point and gave a Man of the Match display as the last year's finalists atoned for their opening round defeat with five points to spare over Skryne at Sean Newman Park

11 Darragh McGovern (Donaghmore Ashbourne): 'The Moores' top scorer with 1-5 in that comfortable win over Blackhall Gaels on the Friday night throw in at Simonstown.

12 Martin Healy (Ballivor): The standout player as Ballivor totally dismantled Cortown in Dunganny. Had the ball in their net twice in the early stages and finished with an impressive tally of 3-2.

13 Conor Moriarty (Curraha): A goal and five from one of the best marksmen in the county as the 'Ha' gained their first ever point in the Meath senior football championship at Dunsany.

14 Shane Comaskey (Dunboyne): His superbly taken first half goal set last year's quarter finalist up for a comfortable win over holders Simonstown at Trim. The roving full forward also chipped in with two points.

15 James Conlon (St. Colmcilles): Wolfe Tones could not cope with the pace and skill of the former county minor. Chipped in with five points from play as the Seasiders made it two from two.

Manager: Des Lane (St. Colmcilles)
Has guided the 2016 All Ireland Club IFC finalists to their second win in Group C of the SFC. In a very tense tough encounter the Cilles saw off favourites Wolfe Tones by the minimum at Pairc Tailteann.
