Replying To ConnollyDub: "He should be apologising to his players for apologising in the first place...
What the hell has he got to apologise for??
I mean this is the orange order we are talking about here, a group of sectarians/anti-irish cathloic that sing stuff like "up to our neck in fenian blood" while marching through Catholic areas trying to antagonise people..." Completely agree. Fair play to you for posting this.

Maybe I'm wrong in this, but should Mayo management not have thought about Tom in advance of game and have had a plan in place for him to join his team mates on pitch, in event of a victory?

Will really miss Diarmuid. He is such a natural, talented and skillful player. A pleasure to see in full flow action. He made every game so interesting, never a dull moment when he was on the pitch. He always brought huge energy to a game, even though there were lots of occasions when as a Mayo fan, I wished he had a little less energy!! Best of luck Diarmuid and every blessing for the future.

Is Dublin's Success False, Tarnished And Bought? - 4 Like(s)
Dublin's success is down to sheer commitment and hard work of each and every one of their players. Plus of course skill, talent and unselfishness.
I am a Mayo supporter who really admires this current Dublin team. Well done to them all on achieving the four in a row. If we are not in the final 2019, I hope they get the five in a row.

I am delighted for Steven Cluxton and will watch him come out for 100th championship appearance. It is an outstanding achievement. It reflects his character as much as his footballing skills.
Here in our house in Mayo, he is greatly admired.

Replying To countymonaghan: "John Small really has to be stuck in everything. Hit a man and stand up to the fight but don't lie down in a heap in hope that the referee sees it as 'accidental'. Would he go one on one with the likes of Neil McGee? No he waits to do someone falsely. He done similar against Kerry. Several late challenges and all ignored. He lets down a good Dublin team IMO. The remaining of the team are cynical but no dirt in them. They are a joy to watch.
As someone stated above Tyrone got slated a few weeks back for 'targeting Clifford'. Big siege made out of it but what will be made of tonight's antics? Nothing.
Another talking point has to be the time. Dublin V Monaghan near 4 mins on top of added time was played due to 'time wasting' nd substitutes. I agree to an extent but why doesn't this happen in every game?? 7 mins added on tonight and 8 was played. 1 minute extra for several stoppages, 2 yellows (reds) and a brawl. Referees need to cop on and apply the same rules to every team. If Dublin were losing by a point tonight (like in Monaghan game) would the ref of blown it up?? I don't think so. He would of gave them another chance.
GAA is corrupt at this stage. Two referees needed, external source for timing the game, and glasses for linesmen and umpires." Yes, Johnny Small is stuck in everything. Why wouldn't he be? He is young, fit, determined and wants his team to win.

Replying To avonali: "He is the pivotal player in the team. When Dublin are playing to their awesome potential Kilkenny is always heavily involved. He very much directs a lot of the attacks and influences the pace of the game. Great player." Yes, he has real leadership and drive. One of the greatest ever players in the game.
For his sake and for his team mates, now that we are well and truly out, I sincerely hope the Dubs do the 5 in a Row.

I'll be shouting for the Dubs. Players have put in such hard work and commitment. Even though I'm sure money helps, it can't tog out and win games. The players must have done the hard graft for that to happen, regardless of finances.

Pete McGrath says "up the Dubs" - 2 Like(s)
Replying To mod: "Most reasonable GAA followers would have to agree with him. Dublin play a very attractive brand of the game. Manly but very skillful. However they have a bigger pick than the rest of the counties and we just dont have the same depth of talent. So competing counties just have to devise a method of overcoming this wealth of talent. I have always said that if Mayo dont win I would like to see the Dubs continue their reign, their style is good for the game." Agree.
This current Dublin team play beautiful football. They have made a huge contribution to the positive image of Gaelic games.
Of course, I do hope that this will be Mayo's year but should it not, then I too will be cheering on the Dubs.

Does Diarmuid Connolly have his own rules? - 2 Like(s)
Replying To hill16no1man: "Man some of ye must never have played the game
Yeah Connolly was silly to let it get to him but how has nobody suggested what westmeath were doing is very poor sportsmanship.
we had a hullabaloo all last week over I Shea diving and how it's cheating yet not so much as a single poster mentions the bad sportsmanship shown by westmeath to goad and down right entice somebody into something. Their manager has even admitted it after they pre planned to go after him. What's the player to do in my opinion this best thing to do is turn and point at the scoreboard and show the aggressors that's where we will do our talking yet when Alan brogan done that before to the same treatment he was labelled as showboating. The refs have a rule where they can give a black card to players abusing another player But had there been one given since the black card was introduced? What's the other options connolly has? He went to the ref already before that incident to inform him he was been targeted and it didn't do much good. So you come to the conclusion you ignore him and let him intimidate you and walk all over you and then what as Jim Gavin says we expect our players to stand up for themselves so if Connolly allows them to intimidate and walk all over him he will be taken off by management for not standing up for himself. For me people whinge about diving and all sorts in the gaa but condone abusive behaviours from teams to try and get player's sent off as means to try winning a game." Delighted that others too see the true facts. Westmeath have admitted they intentionally targeted Diarmuid Connolly. To deliberately provoke or target a player has to be one of the lowest levels of sportsmanship. Almost as if to say that if one can't equal or surpass a player, then the route to winning is the cheat's way of deliberate provoking. Can true satisfaction ever be gained from this? Not for decent, honest sportsmen.
Diarmuid Connolly is one of the very best players in this country. He has got to the level he is at by way of his ability, his commitment and his character. He may have a temper. That temper is part of his character and has made him what he is. It may be a fault. If so, it is a fault which he alone has to deal with and most definitely should not be used by others to gain advantage.
Which one of us have no faults?
Like Diarmuid Connolly and his temper, we all battle with something. There are times we succeed and times we don't, but go on trying nonetheless. In such cases, negative behavior from others is never helpful.
Diarmuid Connolly's abilities are far greater than his faults.
Which one of us have worked on our abilities to the same level as he has?

Replying To royaldunne: "Very bad form to speak of children (yes children as they all u18) in those terms.
Cop yourself on, I have given out more than most about senior players from every county. However in my life I have never said a disrespectful word about a underage player.
Kids are off limits regardless if they lose by 100 points. Pity we all weren't so perfect as yourself when we were 16/17.
Disgraceful behaviour" Completely agree. Extremely bad form to speak of minors in such a way. Disgraceful to put it mildly.
Fair play to those lads for being selected for team in first place. The time and commitment they have to give for that. Juggling school work, social life and training at that level can not be easy.
Clearly all those boys are not spending their time in the pub!l

Replying To Gleebo: "Castlebar Mitchels played Breaffy twice in the last three seasons in the county senior football final. It would be three times only for Knockmore upsetting Breaffy in the Mayo semi-final on Sunday. A lot of players on the Mitchels, Breaffy and Ballintubber teams would have gone to the same school (St.Gerald's, Castlebar)." Knockmore's victory in the semi final last Sunday was one of the sweetest of them all.
Brilliant defence. Well done to all Knockmore lads. A great team effort.
