McQuillan, Wayne

The tragic death of 30-year-old Wolfe Tones footballer Wayne McQuillan in the early hours of New Year's Day, 2014 stunned his family and friends as well as the entire Drogheda community and Wolfe Tones GFC. 'Quilly' was a superb underage footballer with the Tones, featuring prominently on the side that captured the U14 'A' championship in 1997 - the first underage title won by the club since the 1940s. As well as being a great forward in gaelic football, Wayne was also a brilliant darts player and played soccer for Drogheda Boys. Former Wolfe Tones team-mates provided the guard of honour as Wayne's remains were brought into the Holy Family Church for his funeral mass on the first Sunday of the year.
