St. Pats celebrate

In its 5th year there is finally a new winner of The Brendan Carthy Cup after the impressive streak by Patrician High School Carrickmacross has been broken.

Shane O'Rourke's St Pats Classical School emerged victorious after beating the Vinny Corey managed Boyne Community School in an all Meath final. The Navan school won a thrilling final on a scoreline of 5-03 to 2-6.

St Pats Navan had a scare at the semi final stage when they score two points in the last 30 seconds to beat local school De La Salle College.

In the shield final St Josephs CBS Drogheda played Portmarnock Community School in a fiery encounter.  St Josephs came out on top after going in at half time with a small lead. They managed to hang on and close out the game to win the Brendan Carthy Shield for the first time, becoming the second Louth School to win the shield after De La Salle, Dundalk won it last year.

On the day there were over 150 players participating with some high profile managers such as Monaghan's Vinnie Corey, Meath's Shane O'Rourke and Louth's Conall McKeever and Darren McMahon. The competition was played in great spirit and was a fitting tribute to Brendan who was a true Louth Gaol. His wife Mary presented St Pats Navan with the Brendan Carthy Cup and his close friend Tom Flynn presented St Josephs CBS Drogheda with the Brendan Carthy Shield.

Josh Carolan was rewarded for his performances when he picked up player of the tournament which was presented by Oisin McConville and Shane Lennon.

Everybody involved would like to wish Clans man Reece O'Hanlon a speedy recovery after the Colaiste Chu Chulainn player fell awkwardly and broke his arm playing for his school.
