Former Limerick star Ollie Moran reckons his home county can tear up the script and take home their first All-Ireland senior hurling championship crown in 45 long years.

The Shannonsiders face holders Galway on Sunday at Croke Park and Moran, who was part of the Limerick side which defeated Galway in the 1997 National League final, feels John Kiely's young team have plenty going for them heading into the biggest date on the hurling calendar.

"Being honest, most Limerick people wouldn't have expected them to make the inroads they have or the level of progress they have this year," Moran is quoted saying by the Irish Daily Star.

"But it's like everything, they have momentum going, they're a very grounded bunch, they're very relaxed, they don't do panic. We are all taken aback by how comfortable they are on the pitch and how they react to adversity.

"Against Cork, being six points down, there would be no shame to leave Croke Park having been beaten, but no, they rallied and scored the next seven points. That's been refreshing, they have no fear."

He added: "So from that point of view this is a young team with no inhibition - they'll just have to go for it. They don't have that burden of expectation that maybe other Limerick teams may have had previously, and I think that's a really good thing."
