Stefan Campbell has opted out of the Armagh's senior football panel ahead of the Orchard County's 2018 campaign.

The Irish News reports that the Clan na nGael forward hasn't linked up with Kieran McGeeney's squad for pre-season training but it is understood that the door remains open to him for a return to the set-up.

It means that the Orchard men will begin the New Year without seven members who started this year's Ulster championship opener against Down.

The retired Ciaran McKeever and Cullyhanna's Ciaron O'Hanlon, who is travelling abroad, are both absentees while Crossmaglen quarter Paul Hughes, James Morgan, Oisin O'Neill and Jamie Clarke are all reported to have opted out for the coming season.

Armagh open their new season against Down in the Dr McKenna Cup on January 3rd.
