Is there anyone else hearing a prominent squad member is ready to transfer to the dark side, .and by dark side I mean Roscommon.

It would be hard to believe. I doubt either county would be comfortable letting it happen

Conor Cox training with Roscommon also. He was a star forward with Kerry Juniors and UCC.

Cunningham supposedly looking at players with Roscommon connections.

What's stranger is that Cunningham is targeting forwards from outside the county where it is obvious for past 5 years their forwards are up to a high standard with Cregg, Devenney, Murtagh's and Smith's really good but their defence is extremely porous.
Beirne is good but still raw. He will struggle to make that forward line. He is leaving a good management set up for a hurling manager. That is a little insulting to be honest. Word from Leitrim camp is good and then you have a deserter.
Leitrim did play better without him in the championship last year but I recognize there is serious talent in Beirne that could be exploited with proper coaching that could make him one of our best forwards ever. I hope he hasn't gone to the sheep stealers. If he has he will become our Mo Johnston.

I wouldn't have any problem with a player moving county due to working in that county if it's a few hours awat but when it's a neighbouring country I think it shouldn't happen.. as a poster said above we have plenty of top class forwards.. how good is this lad

Its been widely reported that a number of Roscommon players are either going traveling or focusing on work and studies. Its one of the reasons why McStay jumped ship when he was meant to stay until 2020. If forwards from other counties are brought in it would say they are filling in the gap for the players that will be away for a year. I should also point out Cunningham is more than a hurling manager, he won many county football titles for Garrycastle and St Brigids and won both their first ever provincial titles. He also has a good management team behind him with Iain Daly,Mark Dowd who has been as successful at underage and club manager as Terry Hyland has been.

Eddie 1 here

2018 was horrific. There is not enough space on my computer to go into the details

With a new management team in place everyone is thinking positive.

And today a half parish winning Leinster. Let us stop making excuses .

So here's to 2019, it's looking good ( and not a ball kicked yet )

Happy Xmas to all you 'threaders'

His father is a Roscommon man apparently.

Mulligan was deflated when leitrim were drawn with roscommon in championship. He will be more so now.

I don't think Mulligan is the best of examples. He left his Leitrim club for one in Dublin and wasn't he born and bred in Donegal before moving to leitrim.

Michael Beirne is a Leitrim man, born and reared in Eslin. As far as I am aware of Keith has absolutely no Roscommon connections. Still believe this is all a hoax of some sort

He played the challenge match against Meath in Oldcastle last month. I am also unaware of any Roscommon blood he may have. In that case would he have to transfer to a Roscommon club to play county for them. Very bizarrre situation if this is true and i hope its not because we can't afford to be losing any player.

First of all let's put this Keith Beirne nonsense to bed. A bizarre rumour that some attention seeker started and it has caught wildfire with absolutely no truth to it. Has been training with Leitrim and was up in Meath a few weeks back.

Any more word on the squad? Have any of the Dublin qualified players joined up or has it all came to nothing?

From what I know a lot of the players who togged out against Meath will not be making the final panel. I would say it will be approx. a 35 man panel. Since that game 6 Aughawillan players have been called upon the three Plunketts, Dolan, McTague and Flanagan. I would expect 4 of these to be starting come the league. Three Fenagh players also asked O'Rourke, Wrynn and Gilheaney. Still doubts over Wrynns availability. It is said he will be given as much time as necessary to sort out his work schedule if they can be sorted.

Pearce Dolan was also at Australian Rules trials a few weekend back which once again showcases the fact that it is a myth that Leitrim don't have quality footballers.

From what I can think of:
Shane Moran,
Gary Plunkett,
Ray Mulvey,
Pearce Dolan,
Mark Plunkett
Fergal McTague
Sean McWeeney

Are all involved in the panel along with lot's more and will be there or there abouts to start. None of these played league football for Leitrim in 2018.
New manager or not just having these players back in the set up should guarantee we are a better team come the start of the league.
