Relegation not an option for Harte

Mickey Harte has stressed the importance of Tyrone staying in Division 1 of the Allianz League.

With just one point from their first three games, the Red Hands face an uphill battle to retain their top-flight status.

“It’s totally important, crucial to stay in Division 1 because this is where you get competitive football all year round,” the Tyrone manager told the Irish News.

“If you’re not in Division 1, you won’t get competitive football every day you go out, you’ll get football that you can win probably without being at your best. That’s no disrespect, but there’s some teams in Division 2 who aren’t at the level of Division 1 football, and that tells a tale.

“So you’re not getting the proper competitive football if that’s where you play, and that’s why people in Division 2 are so keen to get out of it, because they want to be mixing it with the best.

“And if you’re not there, you’re not mixing with the best the whole year round, you’re only getting them when it comes championship time.”
