A Fianna Fail Councillor is calling for next Sunday's Galway SFC final between Corofin and Mountbellew-Moylough to be played in Tuam.

Tuam Stadium traditionally held the showpiece game, but has lost out to Pearse Stadium in Salthill in recent years.

In a letter sent to the Galway county board, Tuam-based Cllr Donagh Killilea stated: "Further to the results of the two semi-final club games today, could I request that you consider having the club football final between Mountbellew-Moylough and Corofin played at Tuam Stadium and not hold it in Pearse Stadium.

"Given that it is a Bank Holiday weekend and these two teams involved are local to Tuam, it would be of great appeal to locals travelling. Also the Races are on in Galway and we should not add to the traffic woes that are expected.

"Also, as Tuam is making great progress, the gate fees would be welcome towards the development of Tuam Stadium."
