Westmeath manager Jack Cooney expects there will be a response from Cavan following their opening FL2 round one defeat to Armagh last weekend.

The Breffni men suffered a heavy defeat to their old rivals and with a number of players having opted off the squad this year, they are tipped to be relegated.

Westmeath on the other hand, got off to a winning start when they defeated Clare with a last gasp point by John Heslin earning them a narrow victory.

A win for Cooney’s charges would put them in a good position and go a long way to their target of consolidating their place in the division, but the Coralstown/Kinnegad clubman is adamant that Cavan will be no pushovers.

“I expect a huge bounce from Cavan after their loss to Armagh last Saturday night,” Cooney told the Westmeath Independent.

“Cavan have proven themselves to be a quality team over the last number of years. They’ve been building something really good up there and there’s really good character in that Cavan team.”
