Kerry chairman Tim Murphy acknowledges the fact that it is a huge challenge to stop their young players from being lured to the Australian Football League (AFL).

Murphy was speaking to delegates at the annual convention earlier in the week where he stated that despite the size of the task, the county board were doing all they can to give players the option of staying here.

The Kerryman reports that Murphy was speaking in the wake of the departures of Stefan Okunbor and Mark O’Connor to the AFL, while two more players Paul O’Shea and Colm Moriarty have attended AFL trials recently.

“The AFL and their scouts continue to be a challenge not only for us here in Kerry, but the GAA as a whole,” stated Murphy.

“We are continuing in our endeavours to create as attractive and environment as possible here at home and convey our players the benefits of remaining in Ireland while also assisting them with educational opportunities, career advice and enhanced employment prospects.”
