Monaghan midfielder Darren Hughes has had his eight-week ban upheld by the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC).

The Scotstown clubman was hit with the suspension over an infraction during the Farney men’s first round qualifier victory over Fermanagh last Sunday week.

Still recovering from the broken ankle he suffered in April, Hughes was acting as the team's water carrier when he became embroiled in an altercation at the end of the game.

Fermanagh’s James McMahon and Paul McCusker were both red-carded following the incident, which meant the Ernesiders finished the game with 12 players after Lee Cullen was sent off earlier in the Clones clash.
