Aherne takes up St Brigid's role

The St Brigid's and Padraig Pearses players parade before the 2016 Roscommon SFC final at Kiltoom.

Ger Aherne has been named the new St Brigid’s senior football manager.

Following huge success with the club’s minor teams, Aherne makes the step up to the senior role where he will replace Frankie Dolan.

St Brigid’s lost this year’s county SFC final to Clann na nGael and Aherne along with his management team of Darragh Blaine, Dermot O’Connor, Conor Martin and Pat Regan have been handed the task of winning the Fahey Cup in 2019.

Aherne admitted to the Roscommon Herald that he was looking forward to the challenge ahead and especially working with the youngsters coming through the ranks.

“It’s a big challenge, but we’re all looking forward to it,” said Aherne. “We’ve a lot of good young lads coming through and it’s an exciting time for the club in that regard, but moving up to play adult football and competing for county titles, senior and junior, is a different test for these players.”
