Mike Solan is confident that the management team he is currently in the process of assembling can “add value” to Mayo football.

After being nominated along with James Horan, the Ballaghaderreen man will sit down for an interview with Mayo chiefs in the not too distant future in his bid to fill the vacancy created by Stephen Rochford’s resignation as Mayo senior football manager.

His coaching CV includes All-Ireland U-21 success in 2016 while he guided the U-20s to this year’s national decider against Kildare.

Solan’s fellow Ballaghaderreen man John McGinty has played a prominent role in those achievements and is on board along with Tyrone All-Ireland winner Enda McGinley and Kerry native and former Laois footballer, Billy Sheehan, who has experience coaching Cork and Offaly.

Solan revealed to the Irish Examiner that a former Mayo senior footballer is also on the verge of joining his ticket and that he has an “experienced coach” lined up to train the Dublin-based Mayo players.

On the possibility of joining forces with James Horan, he said: “I’m fully focused on our own management team and the work we have done to get to this point.”
