Laois manager John Sugrue is to give every potential O’Moore County footballer the chance to impress him in competitive action.

As many clubs are already out of the various Laois football championships, the only way now to impress a county management team would have been trial games.

However, Sugrue has come out with a plan to introduce a new divisional football competition which will give potential county stars the chance to impress in competitive fare.

The county has been divided into four regions and the competition will begin the week after the county final, with the county champions being excluded.

In the match programme for last weekend’s SFC quarterfinals, the Kerry native outlined his plans for the competition.

“The proposed Trial Tournament will be played on a round robin basis, with three games on successive weekends, top two divisional teams qualify for the cup final and bottom two divisional teams qualify for shield finals on finals weekend,” wrote Sugrue.

“Independent management teams will be put in place for each team and it will hopefully give the players the chance to play in a condensed talent type situation. We will be narrowing down a panel of players from this and from there 2019 begins. We hope you come out in your numbers and join us on the first step.”
