James Horan during his stint as Mayo senior football boss

James Horan and Mike Solan are the two names that have been put forward to become Mayo’s next senior football manager.

The deadline for nominations expired at 1pm yesterday (Wednesday) and the county’s clubs have put forward the names of Horan and Solan, with the county board’s executive set to choose one to succeed Stephen Rochford who stepped down three weeks ago.

Horan is favourite to take the post, having previously managed the Heather County from 2010 to 2014 and guiding them to four Connacht SFC titles as well as a pair of All-Ireland final appearances.

A native of Ballaghaderreen, Solan steered the county to U21 All-Ireland glory two years ago and will look to upset the odds in this two-horse race.
