"I had no choice but to score it"

Burren’s Donal O’Hare knew that missing from the penalty spot against Kilcoo on Sunday was not an option.

Mourne County attacker O’Hare emphatically dispatched his spot kick shortly after half time in Newry and finished with 2-5 to his credit in a Man of the Match display as Burren dashed Kilcoo’s seven-in-a-row dream and claimed the Frank O’Hare Cup for the first time since 2011.

“I knew this penalty was make or break,” he told The Belfast Telegraph. “I had no choice but to score it. The last one I actually hit against him, he saved it in the league game. I went the same side. I stood up and I knew I was going that side, and lucky he went the other side.

“It wasn't in my mind when I hit it, but it was sort of in my mind leading up to the game, that was Monday or Tuesday, and the rest of the week just forgot about it and just being free, and it's probably something that's come with age.

“Just that wee bit more freedom and wee bit more confidence in your ability and no nerves, so I suppose when you play club football at a high level you want to be in that position and thankfully I stood up and got it.”
