Limerick finally got the Kilkenny monkey off their back today when they registered a first championship victory over the Cats in 45 years.
Tom Morrissey scored a brilliant late point as the Treaty County edged a classic All-Ireland SHC quarter-final at a rain-soaked Semple Stadium. It was Limerick's first time to master the Cats since the 1973 All-Ireland final when the conditions were similar to today.

Yes! Heartstopping and truly heartwarming for Limerick people the world over. The end of a 44-year championship losing streak to Kilkenny. My father lifted me over the turnstile that day at Croke Park in 1974 and there hasn't been a more exciting Limerick team since. Believe!
