Donal Vaughan has caused a stir in Mayo by seeking a transfer from Ballinrobe to county champions Castlebar Mitchels.

The Mayo News reported last night that the experienced county star, who celebrates his 29th birthday today, is set to be granted the transfer on the grounds that he has been living and working in Castlebar for the last three years.

Vaughan has played senior football for Ballinrobe for 11 years, but was facing the prospect of playing in the intermediate ranks for the first time next year following their recent relegation. He will be a major addition to Mitchels who will attempt to win the Moclair Cup for a fourth straight year in 2018.
