Joseph Cooney marked his return to club action with an early goal for Sarsfields against Kilnadeema-Leitrim in the second round of the Galway SHC on Saturday.

Lining out at full forward and just back from Australia where he spent the winter, Cooney also hit some fine points as Sars, who accounted for Cappataggle in the first round, drew on a 1-19 to 3-13 scoreline at Duggan Park.

Cooney's return is a welcome boost for Galway manager Micheal Donoghue, who will be without the injured Joe Canning for the upcoming Leinster SHC. There was further good news for the Galway management when another Cooney, Conor, lined out for St Thomas' in their 2-15 to 1-8 win over Tommy Larkins after recovering from the ankle injury he sustained in the champions' first round loss to Liam Mellows a couple of weeks ago.
