Neil McGee of Donegal jumps with Cork's Colm O'Neill during the 2012 All-Ireland SFC semi-final

Retired Cork star Colm O'Neill says that Donegal's Neil McGee is the toughest player he's marked during his playing career.

The 29-year-old O'Neill recently announced his retirement from inter-county football, having taken advice from Cork's medical staff over torn cartilage in his knee he suffered in the Rebels' Munster semi-final win over Tipperary last month.

When asked on RTÉ Radio 1's Saturday Sport on who is toughest opponent was, the 2010 All-Ireland winner pointed to the non-nonsense Tir Chonaill full-back.

"The toughest player I marked, and I marked him a few times, was probably Donegal's Neil McGee," O'Neill told RTÉ Radio 1's Saturday Sport.

"Teak tough and you don't get much off him. Any time you come away with picking up a few scores off him is a good day."
