Offaly selector Ger Oakley says the Faithful County’s players cannot be faulted for their efforts in the lead up to this afternoon’s relegation showdown against Kerry.
Oakley has been part of a new management team to come in in recent weeks after Joachim Kelly replaced Kevin Martin following losses to Laois and Westmeath in the Joe McDonagh Cup.
Kelly’s charges now face into a massive clash with the Kingdom at 3pm today in Tralee, with the losers slipping down to third tier championship status next season in the form of the Christy Ring Cup.
“Of course they can do it, but it’s going to take work rate and effort because they are in a dogfight. Circumstances aren’t ideal, but it is what it is,” Oakley told the Irish Sun.
“It’s a learning curve for myself Joachim, more so than the players. We are in just over three weeks. You are trying to turn the tide and it’s still possible. The players have put in a huge effort the last three weeks. I can’t fault any of them.
“They are just on a rotten losing streak — but it has to stop sometime.”
