Lee Keegan reckons Mayo still have a long way to go to reach the heights they want to this summer.

James Horan’s men captured their county’s first National League crown in 18 years late last month with victory over Kerry at Croke Park but the four-time All Star still contends that no one’s place on the team is safe.

“James has put a lot of pressure on us to perform because again, no one is going to get picked if they’re not playing well,” Keegan is quoted saying by Daily Star Sunday.

“We all know we still have a long way to go to reach the stage we want to get to. Even after winning the league, we were back training two nights later. People probably made a lot of the fact we finally won a trophy at Croke Park. And it was very satisfactory. But I think at the same time, it’s only the league.

“The championship is where you want to perform. I think it was important for ourselves to recognise that.”

He added: “We have a better squad than we have had in years. No one here feels their place is safe. And we’d not think that with James in charge, that’s for sure.”
