My point is whats the difference in what Seanie did and someone quitting the County Panel to travel to America to play club football? At least Seanie wanted to better himself, and play at the highest level. Perhaps if the County board and the GAA iself looked after the players a bit better, these guys wouldnt have to leave for America.

S Goldrick: Numpty!! You obviously didn't get my point! These are young lads and they can go and play in the states later on in their careers. Terry is trying to build a team and it doesn't help when players want to opt in and out iof the squad. Try reading between the lines next time.
I felt the need to register having read this line from Dean Martin. "can't blame him for wanting to try himself at the highest level, cause in truth, Cavan have been woeful for the last decade."
This raises so many questions. First of all Dean, is this really your view or did you instantly regret posting it? Do you think it would have been fair game for Declan Browne to transfer to Cork, for example? If it is your view, then why doesn't the bould SJ transfer to one of your many neighbours? Sure if he only wants to play at the top level then why not? While we're at it why don't you get your club to propose a free for all in terms of transfers and have a couple of super teams compete for the AI and to hell with playing for your club and county?

Well said Skelling. I tried to explain to him the difference but he just can't see it. I think he watches too much premier league soccer and thinks that there is a transfer system between counties , whereby if you are not picked for your county team you can try and transfer to a top team or if you just fancy playing for another county then why not.
He doesn't seem to realise that the USA experience is a totally different kettle of fish. I mean how many players in ireland transferred to Kildare at the time Seanie did and how many transferred to USA clubs that year or how many transferred to UK clubs. Is he saying that it's fine for club players to go abroad in search of work and/or new experiences but it's not OK for someone who is deemed good enough to play for the county. That would seem a hell f a handycap. I.e. once you reach county standard level you are not moving out of the country until your playing days are over. perish the thought.
