Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Andy Reid has described the GAA's decision to refuse permission to host Liam Miller's memorial match at Pairc Ui Chaoimh as 'scandalous'.

Efforts were made to stage the game in Pairc Ui Chaoimh, but Cork are bound by GAA rules which meant they could not make the newly-redeveloped 45,000-capacity stadium available for a one-off soccer game. It will instead take place on September 25 at the nearby Turner's Cross, which can accommodate only 7,000.

Reid tweeted: "Scandalous, the GAA wouldn't allow the use of Páirc Uí Chaoimh for the Liam miller memorial match.

"Liam represented ireland from u15 all the way up to senior level and gave everything, shocking! No problem having Garth Brooks or Neil Diamond play Croker though."

Former Kerry star Tomas O Se believes it's high time GAA venues other than Croke Park were allowed to open their gates to other sports.

"Every pitch except Croke Park has to go before Congress for permission for outside use," he tweeted.

"Even though Cork county board were open to letting the Liam Miller testimonial match go ahead in Pairc Uí Chaiomh (45000), they can't use it and it will be in Turners Cross (7000). My God."
